We develop the concept of the product forwards to include its mechanical, electrical, and software components in preparation for the manufacturing process.
As part of this, DFMEA initially identifies ways that a product design might fail in real world use with corresponding severity ranking/danger of the effect on the user. Then, causes and their mechanisms of the failure mode are identified. High probability causes, indicated by the occurrence ranking, may drive action to prevent or reduce the cause’s impact on the failure mode.
Following on from DFMEA the components can then be arranged in a DVP containing all the acceptance criteria, responsible person/team, type of test and start/finish dates. The DVP is a systematic plan that confirms the design meets the required specifications after verification.
